Welcome message

THE BACKGROUND :

The MicAngelo Campaign is an ongoing fundraising and awareness project highlighting the plight of two (now 4 year old) White Bengal Tigers named Angelo and Mich.

In July 2009 Angelo was diagnosed with Progressive Retinal Atrophy, a genetic transferable and incurable disease which will leave him permanently blind. Angelo needs specialised and continued medical treatment with the dedicated team of minders he has come to accept and trust.

On learning of Angelo's "disability", the then owner of Angelo demanded payment for Angelo in the amount of Rand 250 000 failing which Angelo would be taken back and possibly sold for canned hunting or a similar fate.

Mich (Angelo's partner) was also destined to be taken back to the Free State for future breeding purposes and a deadline for payment in the amount of Rand 500 000.00 for both Angelo and Mich was set at the end of July 2011.

FUNDRAISING :

Various fundraising campaigns, individual donations and a very successful golf day at Atlantic Beach Golf Club in Melkbosstrand, rasied in excess of Rand 73 000.00.

To ensure that Angelo and Mich remained together at Jukani a loan of Rand 177 000.00 was secured for Angelo.

A further Rand 250 000,00 (for Mich) was also loaned by the same 2 people prior to the deadline so both Angelo and Mich are now safe, secure, happy and more importantly together.

THE NEXT STEP :

The next fundraising and awareness campaign will take place at a venue still to be finalised where various items of Rugby, Football and Maritime Memorabilia will be on auction.

All auctionable items are still being added to this Blog to allow potential bidders to view items in advance of the auction.
